Page 71 - 72: Data Entry | Marking a waypoint is fundamental to GPS navigation because it allows the user to save any location where they have been. Naming a waypoint or changing the coordinate of a waypoint is tedious at best because it takes so may button presses. GPS Made Easy describes data entry for all receivers. The picture in the books shows a key pad for the Garmin 12 XL, but the principle of data entry is the same on the eTrex receivers. Data entry is always accomplished with the up and down arrows. The eTrex models only have up and down arrows and the description in the book also uses only the up and down arrows to select the letters for the names of each waypoint. The same method of entering waypoint names is used to modify any data in the receiver whether it be a coordinate, elevation, time, etc. |

Mark Waypoint Page Pressing enter makes a list of symbols appear. Use the up and down arrows to select the desired icon then press enter. If a symbol is not selected it will use the default symbol, which is a square with a flag on it. This example selects the boat icon.
